It is my pleasure and honour, as National President of the Association of United Ukrainian Canadians, to bring greetings to the Winnipeg Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the United Jewish People's Order.
On behalf of the AUUC I welcome all of you to the Ukrainian Labour Temple for this historic anniversary.
The United Jewish People's Order was formed to promote secular Jewish culture, socialist values and social justice; and it has done so throughout its 100 years of activity.
In these difficult, but transformative times, the voice of UJPO, as a progressive Jewish organization, is extremely important, if not critical, to speak out against injustice, intolerance and racism; and to break through the institutional silence of governments and political leaders that enables fanaticism to wreak havoc.
UJPO’s activities for social justice are also important at a time when the concept of equality and the responsibility of society to serve all its members is being eroded further.
At a time of increased warmongering and the resurgence of a Cold War mentality amongst political leaders UJPO’s consistent stand for peace and dialogue amongst nations is important UJPO and the AUUC share common values. We are fellow travellers in the work to build a world that reflects human rights, tolerance, respect between nations, peoples and cultures
