George Borusiewich

Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, George Borusiewich of Toronto, Ontario passed away peacefully on the evening of Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga.

George Borusiewich was born on September 27, 1931 in Montreal, Quebec. There he met and married his devoted wife, Vera, and in 1957 they took up residence in Toronto where they raised two lovely daughters, Nadine and Nancy.

George was a dedicated member of the Ukrainian-Canadian community and a passionate photographer. In his early years in Toronto, George briefly sang with the Shevchenko Male Chorus. He continued to support the group as it evolved into the Shevchenko Musical Ensemble by contributing high-quality photographs of concerts and events, which are now valuable assets of the Ensemble’s permanent archives.

An active member of the Association of United Ukrainian Canadians, George served for many years as president of its Toronto branch. He also spent 30 years on the board of the Shevchenko Museum in Toronto, where he offered wise counsel and contributed enthusiastically to its operations well after his retirement.

Known for his compassionate nature and giving spirit, George always lent a helping hand and put the needs of others before his own. His gentle and unassuming presence will be fondly remembered by his family and friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents Alexandra and John Borusiewich, his daughter Nancy Christie and grandson Misha Krysti. He is survived by his wife, Vera, daughter Nadine McRoberts, son-in-law Mike Lésperance, granddaughter Erin McRoberts, and son-in-law Anthony Christie.

The family has asked that donations be made in George’s name to the Shevchenko Museum in Toronto, the Shevchenko Musical Ensemble, and the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
