Under the sponsorship of the national Association of United Ukrainian Canadians, the Edmonton AUUC Branch was pleased to host the AUUC National Dance Instructor Workshop on Sept 22, 23, and 24, 2023. Sixteen dance instructors from Winnipeg, Regina, Edmonton and Vancouver travelled to Edmonton for this 3-day workshop which focussed on the instruction of Ukrainian dance for children 9 to 11 years old.
Under the professional guidance of Karina Ostrovska of Ukraine and with assistance from translator Bogdan Tkachishyn of Edmonton, participants to the workshop gained invaluable methodological and practical knowledge on teaching Ukrainian dance to children in our AUUC Dance Schools.
Instructor Karina Ostrovska was amazing, well prepared and had incredible knowledge in the art of teaching Ukrainian dance at all levels and from all regions of Ukraine. The knowledge Karina shared with workshop participants was above and beyond what we could have expected and the training participants received will have immediate positive impact in children’s dance classes within AUUC branches. Karina’s knowledge and instruction was motivating and inspiring and our AUUC dance schools will greatly benefit from the children’s character barre, centre work and one piece of choreography that was taught during the workshop.
We would like to thank Karina for sharing her knowledge, skills and talents and we certainly hope to work with her again in the near future. And, thank you to Bogdan Tkachishyn for his translating ability and for providing a vital connection between the AUUC and Ukrainian artists. Working with Karina and Bogdan was an amazing experience for all of our participants.
